Wende Flicks: Last Films from East Germany
Wende Flicks showcases films made by East German filmmakers around the Wende (the Change), the period of drastic upheaval marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall. Covering the years 1988–1994, this series brings to light essentially forgotten films, many of which were never subtitled or screened outside of Germany.
whisper & SHOUT
(Dieter Schumann, 1988)
The Architects
(Peter Kahane, 1990)
Documenting the East German rock music scene of the late 1980s, whisper & SHOUT features established bands like Silly as well as underground groups such as Feeling B, who would later become Rammstein. (115 mins., 35mm)
Filmed as the GDR crumbled, The Architects is a somber portrait of life in East Berlin told through the story of a young architect who feels his work is being strangled by communist dogma. (97 mins., 35mm)
The second film begins at 9:05 PM.
