"A twilight-soaked bundle of songs for the wee small hours, when the light is low and the mood is too."—Paste
Like a modern day update on such classic male-female duos as Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin or Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra, this pairing plays off the principals' contrasting personas to generate its heat. Former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan has a whiskey-and-cigarettes voice that is ideal for these songs, which are mostly penned by Isobel Campbell, late of Glasgow's Belle & Sebastian. Although Campbell projects an aura of sweetness and light, her sultry songs strike just the right note of world weariness to match the raspy tones of Lanegan's voice. As a team, they'll captivate you with songs of longing and regret that feel like whispered confidences, or as the BBC put it, "together, they’re a marriage made in musical heaven." You can expect their set to feature material from Hawk, their soon-to-be-released third album, which includes covers of two Townes Van Zandt songs in addition to the originals.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, July 29.
