"Miroku delighted spectators with its physical beauty ... the artist swept us away on an uninterrupted reverie. Fascinating."—Liberation (Paris)
Japanese choreographer, designer, and solo dancer Saburo Teshigawara, who performs under the company name Karas, opens a rare U.S. tour of his latest work at the Wexner Center. If you’ve been a follower of Japanese dance innovators Sankai Juku, Dairakudakan, and Hiroaki Umeda, you’ll be enthralled by the power of Teshigawara’s precise movements and keen visual sense.
Inspired by a poetic Japanese novel, Miroku unfolds in a series of stage pictures created in a dramatically lit, box-like set. Teshigawara’s charged dance work evolves through a liquid sense of time generated from his body’s crisply abstracted movement and the breathtaking range of space he explores. "He approached the ultimate form of dance," commented the a writer Japanese newspaper Yomiuri, "and created a magnificent epic of the human spirit."
$5 tickets for teens ages 13 to 18 are available to this event through High 5 Columbus.
