ProMusica presents Music in Bloom at the Columbus Museum of Art
Join ProMusica's Cosmos trio as it presents its own floral interpretations, in correlation with the weekend's special Art in Bloom collection. Bring your kids, friends and family to ProMusica Chamber Orchestra's final Stop! Look! Listen! concert of the season at the Columbus Museum of Art at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. Admission to the concert and museum is free.
Cosmos composed of Katherine Borst Jones on flute, Mary E.M. Harris on viola and Jeanne Norton on harp, will present an energetic repertoire. The concert kicks off Main’s A ColumbusTriptych featuring the movements Cheerfully, Unhurried with Profound Calm and Fugato with Energy.
Welcome in spring with Boysen’s Beautiful, Sweet, and Delicate and Larson’s Suite in Four Movements for flute, viola, harp with the movement Tree with Birds. Listen to a floral design by Delibes with his Flower Duet from Lakme. The concert closes with an Owens arrangement of the American Folk Song Trio.
Stay after the concert for a question and answer session with the musicians. Before and after the concert, families are encouraged to participate in an interactive, kid-friendly flowers and art workshop for children six and up. Stop! Look! Listen! is a four-part, family-friendly concert series for Columbus youth to learn about major elements and themes of music and their relation to visual art and literature. Concerts are held at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Dublin Library and the Columbus Museum of Art.
Stop! Look! Listen! is a hallmark program of ProMusica’s education and community outreach efforts. It is generously sponsored by Honda of America, Mfg., Time Warner Cable, Siemer Family Foundation and Target.
Throughout its 29 seasons, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra has been recognized for excellence in presenting the best of traditional chamber orchestra repertoire, as well as the presentation of new and crossover music by contemporary artists. Under the direction of Music Director Timothy Russell, ProMusica has commissioned more than 51 new works and has presented 106 premieres.
The orchestra has won eight awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) for adventurous programming, and continues an active recording program as well as sponsoring educational events.
