About the Zoom Event
Bonnie J. Addario was diagnosed with
stage 3B lung cancer at age 55, when she was at the top of her game and
leading one of the largest privately held oil companies in the United
States. In her corporate arena, she was the first woman to be elected to
the California Independent Oil Marketers Association.
150,000 Americans are lost to lung cancer every year, amounting to
around 400 every single day. It accounts for one-third of all cancer
diagnoses, the most deaths of any cancer, and as many losses as the next
three most deadly cancers (breast, prostate, and colon) combined.
a 17-year survivor of lung cancer, Bonnie is co-founder, board chair,
and patient advocate of the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, the largest
lung cancer organization in the United States. Since receiving her stage
3B lung cancer diagnosis, she has empowered patients and given them a
voice. Bonnie acts as an adviser to industry leaders, clinicians, and
policymakers and is a member of the Personalized Medicine Coalition
board. In 2020, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from CURE
A determined activist on behalf of patients suffering
from the disease, Bonnie has built an extraordinary global network of
fellow activists, patients, doctors, oncologists, researchers, and
caregivers. In her new book, The Living Room: A Lung Cancer Community of
Courage, Bonnie profiles twenty people battling advanced lung cancer
and the ways they’ve found to thrive, not just survive. The goal of
Bonnie’s efforts is to break down the barriers and stigmas associated
with lung cancer and demonstrate how the new wave of treatment options
are moving to make it a manageable disease.
