Online Writing Class: Mining Memories

Monday, September 21 - 6:00 PM

Do you have family, travel, or other memories that you’re dying to get down on paper, but can’t get started — or do you just need some tips for getting back into work you’ve already begun? Whether you’re just starting out or need a jumpstart, this generative workshop is for you. We’ll use fun writing prompts to help us explore our memories and identify ideas to help us get started. We’ll read and study short passages from the works of authors like Ta-Nehisi Coates, Barbara Kingsolver, Lee Martin, and others to learn and mimic their techniques to create compelling stories. By workshop’s end, you’ll leave with at least three drafts to get you started, as well as with tips on how to keep writing and revising.

INSTRUCTOR:

Lisa Lopez Snyder’s essays and short stories have been featured in 34th Parallel, Adelaide, Gravel, The Raleigh Review, The Foliate Oak Literary Magazine, and other magazines. Her essay, “In Transit,” won The Chattahoochee  Review’s 2011 Lamar York Prize for Nonfiction and she was named the 2015 Carl Sandburg Writer-in-Residence.
