Flea Market of Collectables

Outdoor Summer Series: Claudia Owusu

Wednesday, June 23 - 6:30 PM

This event will be held in-person on the Thurber House lawn (77 Jefferson Ave., Columbus, OH 43215). Our outdoor events remain a great way to enjoy an evening of good friends, good food, and great books, nestled comfortably on the side lawn of Thurber House, and celebrate some of the best authors Ohio has to offer.

Welcome back! We are so excited to host our friends on the Thurber House lawn once again! Our first in-person event features writer and filmmaker Claudia Owusu, as well as appearances by Thurber House Flip the Page teen writers and Thurber House Young Docents.
Claudia Owusu
Claudia Owusu is a Ghanaian-American writer and filmmaker based in Columbus, Ohio. She writes from these two liminal spaces, internally and externally, trying to make sense of them. She believes in the beauty of community and the intimate stories we share when we think no one is listening. Her work often engages the spaces that Black women and girls occupy, namely their relationship with safety, carefreeness, and self-ownership.
Claudia’s writing has appeared in Vogue Magazine, Clockhouse, Quiz & Quill Literary Magazine, Wusgood.black, 20.35 African Contemporary Poetry, and Ohio’s Best Emerging Poets 2017 and 2018. Her short films have screened at the Black Femme Supremacy Film Festival, Ohio Shorts Film Festival, and the No Evil Eye Micro Cinema. Her feature documentary, How One Young Columbus Activist is Leading a Fight to Remove Police from Schools, is forthcoming with Frame Media.

Thurber House Flip the Page and Young Docents
Flip the Page: Central Ohio’s Teen Literary Journal is written, staffed, and produced by Central Ohio teens and Thurber House. Our mission is to provide a showcase for the work of young local writers and offer opportunities to learn about submission, critique, editorial design, and publication. The Thurber House Young Docent Program teaches middle school students about James Thurber and Thurber House, prepares them to give tours of Thurber House, and engages them in activities such as holiday decorating and field trips to the OSU Thurber Archives.
5:30–6:30 pm — Optional: Bring your own picnic dinner and come hang out on the lawn during this time frame.
6:30 pm–7:30 pm — Sit back, relax, and enjoy the program!
