Each summer, the Thurber House lawn plays host to a series of outdoor literary picnics and readings with authors who have an Ohio connection. Join us for this long-running tradition of good friends, good food, and great books!
Michael J. Rosen and special guest readers will kick off the 2019 Summer Literary Picnics season. This is a Thurber@125 event, celebrating James Thurber's 125th birthday.
Michael was among those involved in the very first days of Thurber House and he continued to serve as its literary director for twenty years. For the Year of Thurber, Michael is publishing his fifth and sixth books of James Thurber’s work: Collected Fables, as well as a hefty monograph, A Mile and a Half of Lines: The Art of James Thurber.
A Mile and a Half of Lines coincides with an exhibition at the Columbus Museum of Art that Michael has curated and which runs from August 24, 2019 through March 15, 2020. Michael is the author of some 150 other books—poetry, young-adult novels, anthologies, picture books, cookbooks—for readers of all ages.
Picnicking begins at 5:30 pm. Our Young Docents will offer free guided tours of Thurber House. The program begins at 6:45 pm. Thurber House remains open after the reading for touring, book buying, and signing.
Menu: Pretzel club sandwich, potato salad, chips, and a brownie.
