We Shall Remember Them: WWI Exhibits

Columbus Historical Society is thrilled to display nine exhibits related to World War I. The exhibits focus mainly on the years after World War I to tell the often-forgotten stories of what happens to veterans and a community after the war itself ends. Beginning with the city’s reaction to the armistice in November 1918, the exhibits reveal how residents celebrated returning veterans and designed and constructed memorials to the war in the postwar years. The exhibits also examine veterans’ lives after the war, including various organizations formed to assist in their rehabilitation and reentry into the community, and the impact of the war on the city’s landscape, including parks, streets, and buildings. Several ancillary exhibits will also allow visitors to delve into military aspects of the war from the battlefield to commemoration. With the 100th anniversary of the end of the war having passed in November, please join us is considering the ways in which World War I left a permanent imprint on Columbus, Ohio.
